North Hobart Project
At D. Williams Builders, we don’t just restore—we respect, rework and rebuild with purpose. This North Hobart verandah project is a perfect example of how our team blends heritage charm with enduring craftsmanship to create spaces that honour the past and hold strong into the future.
Our client came to us wanting to restore their double-storey verandah in a way that honoured its original detailing—without compromising on modern strength, durability, or precision. It was about making the structure safe, long-lasting and true to the building’s history.
What We Delivered
This wasn’t a cosmetic upgrade—it was a considered reconstruction, balancing heritage detail with structural integrity. Our team took a measured, methodical approach to deliver a verandah that performs as well as it presents, using durable materials, traditional techniques, and expert craftsmanship throughout:
Traditional Details, Modern Execution
We carefully rebuilt the verandah using materials and profiles that matched the original. From reconstructing fretwork and mouldings to timber posts connection details, every element was constructed with accuracy and intent. Respecting the traditional design while upgrading its structural integrity.
Hardwood Flooring That Will Last
We installed new hardwood floors. More than just beautiful, this material offers strength, longevity, and natural warmth—ensuring the verandah will endure daily use and Hobart’s weather for years to come.
Built to Blend In
The finished verandah looks as though it’s always been there—and that’s exactly the point. We didn’t aim to modernise for the sake of it. Instead, we brought the original vision up to today’s standards using expert carpentry and a deep respect for the building’s heritage.
Challenges & Craftsmanship
Restoring period features on a double-storey structure isn’t simple work. This project required detailed planning and craftsmanship to ensure every measurement, angle, and profile was just right. Working at height and within the constraints of an older building also presented access and alignment challenges.
Our team installed custom-milled components and took the time and attention to detail to ensure everything was structurally sound without disturbing the building’s character. It’s the kind of work where patience and experience make all the difference.
Every joint, every cut, every finish—done with care, so that the structure not only looks right, but lasts.
The Result
The verandah is now stronger, safer, and ready for the future—without losing any of the charm that made it special in the first place. It’s a functional outdoor space, a visual asset to the location, and a testament to the value of doing things properly.
Why It Matters
At D. Williams Builders, our purpose is simple: to enrich lives through thoughtful construction. We honour the character of what’s already there, while shaping spaces that work better for the people using them—today and into the future.
This project reflects that mission completely. Every detail was crafted to last, every decision made with care. Because when you combine traditional beauty with modern quality—you build something that stands the test of time.
