Our History
D. Williams Builders was established by David Williams Senior, who emigrated from Wales in 1855. The company grew humbly from Battery Point with David and a small timber yard, as he carried out maintenance and small building works for local residents.
In 2005, local historian and author Caroline Evans published the book ‘Everything Prompt’. Evans chronicled our 150 year company history. The book is currently available at The Hobart Bookshop.

Who We Are Today
D. Williams Builders is now one of Australia's longest running family-owned and operated construction company’s, now in its 6th generation.
The actual date of establishment for D.Williams is a point of contention to this day. However the general consensus is that 1855 was the date of establishment. The date of 1853 as shown on the building facade, may indicate the time in which David Williams Senior started his own carpentry work, pre-dating the move to Tasmania. Maybe one day this mystery will be solved.
The core identity of D. Williams Builders continues to be providing the people of Southern Tasmania with exceptional quality craftsmanship & service in carpentry and building works.
Our scope of services currently incorporate residential, commercial, heritage and insurance projects from small to medium scale.
